The Legal Services Board (LSB) has launched a new discussion paper setting out its concerns about the regulation of immigration advice and services by regulators under the Legal Services Act 2007.
 
 
 
Calls for swift uptake of advocacy quality standard
The Bar Standards Board has called on fellow regulators to join with it in pressing ahead with an innovative scheme to maintain and improve standards of advocacy.
 
 
 
Consultation launched on Judicial discipline regulations
The Office for Judicial Complaints has launched a consultation on proposed changes to the rules and regulations governing the procedures concerning the handling of complaints and discipline of judges.
 
 
 
 
Bar Council launches new online system
The Bar Council and the Bar Standards Board have launched Barrister Connect, a new system to enable barristers to renew their practising certificates online.
 
 
 
Judicial appointments
The Honourable Mr Justice Charles has been appointed a President of the Upper Tribunal (to preside over the Administrative Appeals Chamber) with effect from 4th April 2012.
 
 
David Williams has been appointed a District Judge and assigned to the Western Circuit, based at Weymouth and Dorset Combined Court Centre and Bournemouth and Poole County Court, with effect from 30th April 2012.
 
 
 
Judicial retirement
His Honour Judge Alastair Grindlay McCallum retired as a Circuit Judge on 29th February 2012.

A man was arrested after an alleged unsuccessful attempt to rob a bank in Georgia, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The man left empty handed and escaped in a taxi, but was arrested when he was spotted, returning to the bank to withdraw some money  for his taxi fare...
